What is a long
distance move?
Generally speaking,
a local move is charged hourly while a
long distance move will be charged based
on weight or volume.
A long distance
move is typically a move from one state
to the other, also known as an
interstate move. Some movers will
consider a move of over 100 miles as a
long distance move, and will base their
quotation on weight or cubic feet.
The main distinction between a local and
a long distance move is the authority in
which they fall under. Long distance
movers fall under the regulations of the
Federal Motor Carrier Safety
Administration (the
FMCSA)
while local moves falls under a state
authority.
